“This week, Switch shares some fresh tracks and reminisces about some of his recent live events in preparation for the 2017 Yule Ball hosted by the Portland Chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance.”
Track 1: “X-Men Pool Party” by Kirby Krackle
Another fun track from KK’s Patreon releases. I especially like the line about “still waiting for my powers to arrive,” referencing the first track “The Day My Powers Arrived,” the first track on KK’s 2015 album Mutate, Baby! which might just be my favorite track in their entire catalog. I do love a good callback …

Interlude 1 – Live events I’ve been lucky to be a part of …

Track 2: “Wands At The Ready” by MegaThruster
The title track on MT’s brand new album is a step in a new direction for the boys, incorporatingĀ  new instruments and production ideas to build on their usual 2-man/2-guitar approach, and it’s working for them. The rest of the album shows real progress as well, and I’ll be featuring other tracks from it soon.

Track 3: “The Great Motorcycle Explosion of ’97” by Harry and the Potters
Fun fact — Harry and The Potters duo Joe and Paul DeGeorge helped co-found the Harry Potter Alliance, and it’s the Portland Chapter of the HPA that I’ll be working with on the Yule Ball this year! They’ve definitely grown as musicians over the years, and this 2015 release shows how far they’ve come.

Track 4: “Life’s Just A Party (I Guess)” by Mikal kHill
Musician and producer Mikal kHill has been at this a long time, so it’s no surprise that his new EP is both unexpected and well executed. This one’s my favorite, but there’s a lot more to like there, so be sure to check out the others.

Track 5: “The Captain’s Wife’s Lament” by Paul and Storm
Pirates. I never get tired of partying with pirates.

Track 6: “Hotel Party” by Wreck The System
WTS’ own Twill Distilled reached out when they were getting ready to release this one. It’s a little out of place on this playlist, but it’ll fit right in with my live sets and — if I’m honest — the line “I solemnly swear we are up to no good” is too perfect to ignore, all things considered …

Track 7: “I Go Hard” by Gangstagrass feat. TONE-z
Go listen to Gangstagrass. All of it. It’s OK … I’ll wait here.

Interlude 2 – Unlike anything I’ve heard …

Track 8: “Wash My Hands” by Logan Whitehurst

Track 9: “Wash Your Hands” by Pretty, Good (AKA Shubzilla and Klopfenpop)
The more I listen to this song, the moreĀ  addictive it gets. Klop and Shubz completely outdid themselves here, and I’ll be playing this one for a long, long time.

Track 10: “Out of Charge” by The Doubleclicks
Speaking of Klop, some of you might remember the acapella episode he co-hosted with me a while back. This song makes me want to revisit my love for all things acapella, and — for me — invokes Alison Krauss’ “Down By The River,” one of my favorite recordings from my college years.

Track 11: “MIKE” by Mega Ran
Mega Ran doing what he does. I’d tell him to save some talent for the rest of us, but I’d have to turn the volume down on this track to do it, and I just don’t see that happening.

Track 12: “Chemical Plant Zone (RoboRob Remix)” by Tee Lopes/RoboRob
This remix is ridiculous. My obsession with Sonic Mania is ridiculous. Rob’s work here is absolutely flawless and I’m 10 years old all over again.

Track 13: “Minecraft is for Everyone (DJ Cutman Remix)” by Starbomb
It was actually a friend of mine that turned me on to Starbomb recently, and I wasn’t sure if I could make any of their stuff fit quite the way I wanted it to with the rest of this playlist, and then lo and behold, I stumble on this remix from Cutman, and I couldn’t refuse it any longer.

Track 14: “Radio Kill Switch” by Schaffer The Darklord, Shael Riley and The Double Ice Backfire
I do NOT want to be on Schaffer’s bad side. Ever.

Interlude 3 – Over, and over, and over …

Track 15: “Manifest Destiny (feat. YTCracker)” by MC Lars
Quick update on my progress … I STILL CAN’T BEAT THIS FREAKIN’ LEVEL!
